How To Get a Postal ID? Everything you need to know about applying, renewing, and replacing your Postal ID (2026 Complete Guide).

If you are a Filipino citizen looking for a government-issued ID that is easy to get, widely accepted, and doubles as proof of address, the Philippine Postal ID is one of the best options available to you today. You do not need to be employed, enrolled in school, or registered with a specific government agency to apply. All you need is a valid proof of identity, a proof of address, and a visit to your nearest post office or ID capture station.

This article will cover everything you need to know about the Postal ID in 2026 — from what it is and where you can use it, to the exact requirements, step-by-step application process, fees, and answers to the most common questions people ask. Whether you are applying for the first time, renewing an expired card, or replacing a lost one, you will find everything you need right here.

The Postal Functional Card, or more widely known as the Postal ID is the government-issued identification card produced by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost). If you have ever struggled to find a valid ID for opening a bank account, applying for a passport, or proving your address to a government agency, the Postal ID was designed with you in mind.

Unlike many other government IDs that are tied to employment, school enrollment, or specific agencies, the Postal ID is accessible to virtually every Filipino regardless of status. That makes it one of the easiest primary IDs to obtain in the country today.

Applying for a Postal ID is straightforward and only requires three main steps. Here is a walk-through of the entire process so you know exactly what to expect on the day of your application.

STEP 1

Fill Out and Submit the Application Form

Download or pick up a PID application form from any post office. Fill it out completely in bold capital letters using a black or blue ballpen.Bring your completed form along with all the required documents (see Requirements section) and submit everything together with your payment at the post office.

Tip: Download the application form in advance at postalidph.com to save time.

STEP 2

Go to Your Nearest ID Capture Station

Once your documents are approved, you will be directed to the nearest ID capture station. There are over 273 ID capture stations nationwide — located in designated post offices and selected malls.

At the capture station, a postal staff member will digitally photograph you, take your fingerprints, and record your signature. Make sure you follow the dress code (see Requirements section).

Tip: Come in decent clothing. Remove hats, sunglasses, and face masks before your photo is taken.

STEP 3

Wait for Delivery to Your Mailing Address

After the data capture process, your completed Postal ID will be printed at a centralized facility and delivered directly to your registered mailing address. You do not need to come back to the post office to claim it.

Processing time may vary by location. Make sure your address is correct and accessible for delivery.

Tip: Double-check your complete address in the application form — delivery cannot happen if the address is wrong or incomplete.

NOTE: For rush applications, you are required to return to the capture station on the advised release date. This is typically within the same day or within one to two days.

Q1: Why was the Improved Postal ID released?

The original Postal ID had security features that required special equipment to verify. The improved version adds physical security elements that can be spotted with the naked eye — making fraud detection easier for frontliners. It also uses biometrics-based fingerprint verification via the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to confirm each applicant’s identity.

Q2: How much does the Postal ID cost in 2026?

The fee is Php 550.00 for Regular Applications and Php 650.00 for Rush Applications. These fees are fixed and apply nationwide — so the amount is the same whether you apply in Manila, Cebu, or Davao.

Q3: Who can apply for a Postal ID?

All Filipino citizens living in the Philippines are eligible. Filipinos currently based abroad may also apply, but they must be physically present in the Philippines at the time of application. Foreign residents who have lived in the Philippines for at least six (6) months may also apply.

Q4: How long is the Postal ID valid?

The Postal ID is valid for three (3) years for Filipino citizens and for foreign nationals with a Special Retiree’s Resident Visa (SRRV). For all other foreign residents, the validity is one (1) year.

Q5: What security features does the Improved Postal ID have?

The improved card features on-site digital capture of fingerprints, photo, and signature; centralized ID printing; an encrypted QR code that can be verified using the PHLPost Verification App; a hologram visible only at certain angles; a ghost image; UV-reactive ink; and AFIS fingerprint matching to ensure uniqueness.

Q6: Can I apply online?

As of 2026, the application form can be downloaded online from postalidph.com, but the actual application — including document submission and biometric capture — must be done in person at a designated capture station.

Q7: What if I lost my Postal ID?

You will need to apply for a replacement. Bring a duly-notarized Affidavit of Loss along with your proof of identity and proof of address. The same application fee applies.

Q8: How do I verify the authenticity of a Postal ID?

PHLPost has developed a free Postal ID Verification App available on the Google Play Store. Simply scan the QR code on the card to instantly confirm its authenticity. The app can also be downloaded as an APK from postalidph.com.

Q9: Can a minor apply for a Postal ID?

Yes. Applicants 18 years old and below require the personal appearance of either parent or legal guardian. For minors whose parents are abroad or deceased, a Special Power of Attorney or a court-issued guardianship order may be required.

Q10: I am a married woman — what name appears on the ID?

Under the New Civil Code of the Philippines (Article 370), married female applicants have the legal option to use their maiden name, their spouse’s surname, or a combination. The name on your ID must match the name on the supporting documents you submit.

Below is a sample of the key fields you will need to fill out when applying for a Postal ID. Always fill out the official form from postalidph.com or get one at your nearest post office.
