Should I book a flight and hotel before applying for a Japan visa?
Even though the application form asks for your flight and accommodation details, booking them isn’t required before applying for a Japan visa.
Get a visa first before you book a flight and hotel in Japan, so you won’t be wasting money in case you’re denied for a visa.
When filling out your application form, search for possible flights to Japan at airline websites or travel fare comparison sites such as Skyscanner. As for hotels, use hotel booking websites to find an accommodation option in Japan that you’ll write down on your visa application form.
The airline and hotel you indicate on your application form don’t have to be the ones you’ll actually use on your trip. You can choose to fly with a different airline and/or stay in a different hotel.
But if you want to reserve accommodation beforehand, you can book online through websites such as Agoda, Airbnb, and Booking.com that allow free booking cancellation without requiring advance payment.
This feature is useful for when your Japan visa application gets rejected.
For flights to Japan, just be on the lookout for promo fares from budget airlines such as Air Asia and Cebu Pacific.
