How Long Is the Validity of Philippine Passports for Minors?
In 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 10928 which officially extended the validity of Philippine passports to 10 years.
However, this 10-year validity period only applies to Philippine passports issued to those 18 years old and above who are applying either to get passports for the first time or to replace/renew their old Philippine passports.
Regular passports issued to minors who are 18 years old at the time of application will remain valid for only 5 years.
Although there’s no explanation given, we can only surmise that it has something to do with how drastic a minor’s physical appearance changes in the span of a decade.
By contrast, the passport holder’s picture seems to remain relatively more recognizable throughout the 5-year validity period.
