How long is the validity of Philippine passports for minors?

In 2017, President Rodrigo DuterteOpens in a new tab. signed Republic Act 10928 which officially extended the validity of Philippine passports to 10 years.

However, this 10-year validity period only applies to Philippine passports issued to those 18 years old and above who are applying either to get passports for the first timeOpens in a new tab. or to replace/renew their old Philippine passports. Opens in a new tab.

Regular passports issued to minors who are 18 years old at the time of application will remain valid for only 5 years.

Although there’s no explanation given, we can only surmise that it has something to do with how drastic a minor’s physical appearance changes in the span of a decade.

By contrast, the passport holder’s picture seems to remain relatively more recognizable throughout the 5-year validity period.
